Who should I vote for?

NISG is having its yearly general election. Kevin Shannon will be listed on the ballot to be elected as a University At-Large Senator.

NISG is the Northern Iowa Student Government. Get more information at http://www.uni.edu/nisg/ or Twitter: @NISG.

The NISG General Election will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, February 23-24, 2010. Log into your MyUNIverse account to vote or go to http://my.uni.edu.

Kevin's campaign is subject to the rules and regulations of the NISG Election Commission. Concerns and questions may be directed to Commissioner Halder at mjhalder [at] uni.edu.

This website has been created and hosted since March 2008. Web hosting used for campaign purposes is paid when not used (not pre-paid) and will be reported weekly as accurately as possible.

You should vote for the most qualified candidates who can accomplish the things you want to see get done!

This is why Kevin is qualified:

  • Two Years Experience -- in 2008 and 2009 as a charter University At-Large candidate, Kevin has connected with the Student Body and assisted many students and organizations to reach their goals.
  • Proven Leadership - Kevin is a leader in NISG. Kevin led the coordination and discussion to reform the election rules, with the help of the Executive Branch and Election Commission. Kevin also led constitutional changes and amendments to bring NISG governing documents up to date.
  • Kevin continues to represent his constituents by being involved in activities and available to concerned students in his residence hall and in the NISG office.

Who is Kevin?

Kevin's Goals

Kevin Shannon is a junior Computer Science major at the University of Northern Iowa. He is minoring in Spanish and Bioinformatics. In the past he has been involved in NISG, currently holding the offices of Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of Government and Legistlative Affairs Senate Subcommittee.

In his free time, Kevin likes to hang out with friends and stay involved in many on-campus activities. Kevin is an advisor to the Rider Hall Senate and the Executive Secretary of Iowa High School Model United Nations.

Kevin also attends meetings of the Computer Club, CedarLUG, NRHH, SIS Steering Committee, University Health and Safety Committee, Student Computing Advisory Committee, and the Lutheran Student Center.

Kevin's Goals:

  • Advocate, advertise, and fund fun on-campus weekend activities. Not all students at UNI go home on the weekends, so Kevin will promote the creation of fun, safe weekend activities.
  • Ensure the academic purpose of the University comes first. Encourage students to take school seriously and highlight academic accomplishments. Encourage professors who can make improvements to do so, when possible.
  • Further publicise the goal and mission of NISG. Some students still do not know what NISG does for them. Once all students know what NISG does, all students will be able to take advantage of all UNI has to offer.
  • Keep open communication going between students, staff, faculty, and administration. Multiple studies and conversations have shown that open communication can solve problems and open doors of opportunity for students and professors. NISG will continue to be open and willing to sit down at the table. NISG should also speak up and represent students when they cannot represent themselves.
